The work in short
Joel Stevens studied the basics of photography when he lived in Berkshire, England in the early 1990's. At that time most of his work was landscape photography, but in 2009 his interest for graffiti was piqued when he was awestruck by some images painted on a back alley and felt compelled to capture them in that moment in time.
When many people view "graffiti art" as an oxymoron, Joel Stevens believes it is art. His body of work is a collection of all the images he has photographed during his travels across North America, Europe and Asia.
His main purpose is to raise graffiti and street art to the viewer's conscious awareness so that the graffiti artists' work can be enjoyed by everyone as art.
